Lapsed Certification

If your BLS certification has lapsed, and you wish to reactivate it, you have two options:
A. – Retake the Certification course and pass a NREMT Psychomotor and Cognitive Examination.
OR
B. – A Provider who has expired WITHIN 2 years must:
  1. Request and complete a Reinstatement packet from the EMS Council
  2. Complete required CEU’s for provider level (EMT: 24 / EMR:16. NOTE: A minimum of 75% of required CEU’s must be in the category of “Med/Trauma”)
  3. Once all required CEU’s are completed submit the completed Reinstatement packet to the Regional EMS Council
  4. Create an account at www.nremt.org and then notify the Regional EMS Council so that you can be verified at NREMT.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SELECT “ASSESSMENT EXAM PROGRAM (999)” WHEN CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT.
Successfully pass the NREMT cognitive exam (NOTE: THIS EXAM IS ONLY USED FOR PA EMS CERTIFICATION. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE NATIONAL REGISTRY CERTIFICATION)
When you receive your letter of successfully passing the NREMT cognitive examination, forward a copy to the EMS Council and your certification will be reactivated.
** CANDIDATES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FEES ASSOCIATED WITH NREMT COGNITIVE EXAMS **
A Provider who has expired AFTER 2 years must:
  1. Request and complete a Reinstatement packet from the EMS Council
  2. Complete required CEU’s for provider level (pro rated back to date of expiration. NOTE: A minimum of half of required CEU’s must be in the category of “Med/Trauma”)
  3. Once all required CEU’s are completed submit the completed Reinstatement packet to the Regional EMS Council.
  4. Successfully pass a psychomotor skills exam for appropriate BLS level (Exam dates for E. PA Region are posted on this webpage and are by appointment only)
  5. Only when you have successfully passed the psychomotor exam should you then create an account at www.nremt.org and then notify the Regional EMS Council so that you can be verified at NREMT. IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SELECT “ASSESSMENT EXAM PROGRAM (999)” WHEN CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT.
  6. Successfully pass the NREMT cognitive exam (NOTE: THIS EXAM IS ONLY USED FOR PA EMS CERTIFICATION. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE NATIONAL REIGISTRY CERTIFICATION)
